Watch Wales Euro 2020 Matches the way that you want to

travel to wales euro 2020

Wales football fans have certainly drawn the short straw following the decision by UEFA to spread the group stages of the 2020 Euro finals over 12 countries spilt into 6 groups.

Getting to the Group A Euro 2020 matches from Wales to Baku, onto Rome and back to Wales will be an expensive trip. Added to that, Rome is costly for accommodation, food and drinks.

If Wales progress to the last 16 stage (the top 2 in each group plus the best four 3rd placed teams qualify) the possible venues are:

  • First Place Finish June 27 London
  • Second Place Finish 27 June Amsterdam
  • Third Place Finish 29 June Bucharest

The Euro 2020 Quarter-finals will be held on July 3 in Saint Petersburg and Munich, and July 4 in Baku and Rome, but it is a bit complicated at this stage to work out where Wales Euro 2020 quarter final match is likely to be played.

The Euro 2020 semi-finals and finals are being held at Wembley so not a problem, travel-wise, if Wales get that far this time around.

There are still 16 teams competing for the last 4 play-off Euro 2020 places, so it could be worse for Wales, as the supporters in these countries cannot start booking their Euro 2020 travel until March.

Let’s hope that we have to wait another 60 years before UEFA come up with another plan like this, which does not care about the fans whose countries are not hosting the groups.

Cost of Travelling To Baku and Rome for the Wales Euro 2020 Group Stage

Assuming that you are travelling from Wales to the Euro 2020 groaup A matches, and are intending to fly to Baku and Rome, the cost of fights, 3-start accommodation and transfers is not going to leave much change out of £2000, and that’s without the cost of food and drink.

So instead of taking the basic option, in terms of staying the minimum amount of time in low quality hotels, why not extend the trip to make it your summer vacation?

Where to Travel to from Baku

From Baku, our suggestion is to go by train (9 hours) to Tbilisi in Georgia, then visit Batumi.

When in Tbilisi, it is hard to tell whether you are in Europe, Asia or the Middle East. You will experience the religion, the culture, the food, the amazing way of life in a typical Georgian style.

Batumi is a Black Sea resort, known for gamblers and sun worshippers, and is much more ostentatious than other parts of the country,

Where to Travel to from Rome

There are many more options if your wish to extend your time in Italy after the final Euro 2020 group A match on 22nd June, but bear in mind the possible next Euro 2020 last 16 fixture on 27th or 29th June.

We think that staying on in Italy until 26th June is a very good idea. You could then fly back to London on 26th June to be in London for the Wembley 2020 last 16 match, or travel straight from London Heathrow to Amsterdam or Bucharest if Wales end up playing a bit further afield.

For this reason, we suggest travelling from Rome to Montepulciano by train (it takes about 4 hours). Montepulciano is a medieval hilltop town in Tuscany, Italy. Surrounded by vineyards, it’s known for its vino nobile red wine and excellent cheeses. This will give you the chance to enjoy the fabulous Tuscany countryside which is considerably less expensive than Rome
